Teen sensation Altidore earns MLS honor

Soccer Betting Lines

08/21/2007 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - New York forward Jozy Altidore was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week on Tuesday for his two-goal performance in an epic 5-4 win over Los Angeles on Saturday.

The 17-year-old Altidore scored two goals in the second half for his second straight two-goal game. Although he missed time to play in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup with the United States, he has seven goals and four assists in MLS.

Altidore, quickly being labeled as the future of U.S. soccer, thrived in front of 66,237 fans at Giants Stadium on Sunday.

With the spotlight on Los Angeles' David Beckham, who had two assists and set up another goal in his first MLS start, Altidore helped put New York up 4-2 in the second half.

With the game tied at 2 at half, Altidore scored four minutes into the second half off an assist from Clint Mathis and delighted the fans with his finish in the 70th minute.

Altidore picked up the ball on the left wing, cut into the box and lost two defenders before blasting a shot into the goal. L.A. rallied to tie the match but New York's Juan Pablo Angel scored the game-winner in the 88th minute.

Altidore, Angel and Los Angeles' Carlos Pavon each had two goals in the game.

Altidore earned his first MLS Player of the Week award. Angel won the previous week, which was his second honor of the season. They are the only Red Bulls to be honored this season.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

Terrell Owens could return for Cowboys next game
A bye week will allow Terrell Owens broken hand to recover just in time for the next game the Dallas Cowboys are slated to play, according to reports. MySportsbook.com, an football sportsbook, has posted football betting lines on TO playing.

Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger Sunday night and had a plate surgically attached to it Monday. Although Owens' hand was swollen and aching Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he's optimistic the receiver will be back at work next week and catching passes a week from Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

MySportsbook.com online sportsbook listed Terrell Owens with odds of 7-2 (or $7 paid out for every $2 bet) to return back for the game against Tennessee.

"I certainly wouldn't rule it out now," Parcells said, referring to Terrell Owens immediate return. "Maybe five days from now I might, but I wouldn't rule it out now. ... I know we're looking to try to get him moving around pretty good in the next day or so. So we'll see where we are."

Owens did not speak with reporters Wednesday, but said Sunday he'd be out two to four weeks. A return against the Titans would be 13 days after the surgery. The Cowboys were listed as an early -7 1/2 favorite vs. the Tennessee Titans for Week 4 at MySportsbook.com
